Reflection Time!

This year I learnt how to do sgraffito art. A decision I made this year is not sitting by someone on the mat that will distract me. One goal I accomplished was getting to level 30 in my reading.  This year I tried to be a better person by completing all of my work and getting heaps of certificates on mathletics.  My favourite memory from this year was meeting Mrs Melville's puppies.  The funniest thing that happened this year was when one of Mrs Melville puppies peed on Micah's leg.

My Reflection:

I was learning to make a Tagul about my favourite moments of this year in room 28/29.  It was a bit hard to think about things that I liked this year because there were so many fun things we did.  I enjoyed doing this activity because I had fun and it was really cool when it was finished.

Sgraffito Art

II have been learning to do an art call sgraffito art.  What you had to do is get a piece of paper hen just draw any thing you want to the you get another piece of paper and draw on with any colour pastel.  Next you had to get some black paint and paint it on top of the pastel then wait for that to dry.  When it's dry you had to take something sharp like a sharp stick then scratch out your picture that you chose.  I also wrote down a little poem to go with my art and it made it look really cool.  I really enjoyed doing this art because I have never done this type of art before and I really liked giving it a go. 

Provability with Yahtzee

My Reflection:

I have been learning to find out what the probability of Yahtzee is.  I think that the easiest to roll will have to be chance because all you have to do is roll the dice and then count the number and put the total in the correct column. Then the hardest one to roll is the Yahtzee because when you roll you have to try and get 5 of the same dice it can be any number but they have to all be the same number.  I found this activity a little bit hard and I didn't really understand what you had to do but at the end I got it done. 

Term 4 Week 6

On Saturday I went to the movies with my Mum and my friend.  The movies we went to was in mission bay by the beach. We went there because it was my birthday on Friday. The movie we saw was the hunger games.

By the time we arrived there we had so much time until the movie starts so we went to Kiwi Yo for a while.  The flavor I got was chocolate and the toppings I got were some nerds, sour worms and some hot chocolate sauce my friend got the same as me.  By the time we had all finished it was time to go to the movies and get our tickets we got to sit in the middle.  


About 1-2 and a half hours later it was time to go home.  So then we left the movies got into the car and drove off to go home when we got home it was time for all of us to go to bed I enjoyed my day at the movies. I really enjoyed the movie cause it was really funny.

Narrative Task

My Reflection:

I have been learning to write a narrative.  A narrative is a fairy tale or a story that is like the normal one but you have to change it up a little.  I enjoyed doing this activity because it was easy to do and I really want to do it again because it was really fun.

Te Tuhi

My Reflection:

On Monday Room 29 went to Te Tuhi.  At Te Tuhi we made collages we also looked at some digital collages.  The first thing we had to do was get this type of ink paper and you had to find a picture that you liked.  Then put it on top of the ink paper and draw on your picture and when you lift up your picture it will be on your paper.  I enjoyed going to Te Tuhi and I really want to go next week.  

Term 4 Week 5

                                                   FIREWORKS!!!!!

At 9.30 pm on a Saturday night I did some fireworks for guy folks I did it with my Mum, Dad, Brother, Sister and my Mums friend.  The first thing we did was we did some sparklers I wrote my name with it and I drew a picture of a firework going up in the sky. Then we did the rest of the fireworks it was fun.

The other types of fireworks we did were first a bug one which you had to leave it in it's box then light it up with a lighter then step back and it will light a red light which you can light up your sparklers with. Then we did a lot more different types of fireworks.



After all the fireworks were gone I played with my soccer ball with my brother.  We had a little game of soccer by the time we had to go inside we had finished the game the score was 25-0 to me Yaaaaaayyyyy!!!!! I won, I shouted then my brother made up an excuse saying "that it's not fair because you have been playing soccer for years!" 

After about 10 minutes later all the fireworks were all gone and we had finished our soccer game and it was time for us all to go inside. I didn't want the night to end because it was the best guy folks in my life!!!!

Fractured Fairy Tales

My Reflection:

I was learning to write a Fractured Fairy Tale. First I had to watch a video then I had to think of a Fairy Tale and make it different to the real Fairy Tale. Next I had to complete a writing frame full of my ideas that I thought of. I thought it was interesting because I had to think really hard of what would really hook the reader and what would make the storing interesting. My next step is to use what I have learnt to write my own narrative.

Narrative Framework

My Reflection:

I was learning to write a narrative. First I had to watch a video, read some examples and think about fairy tales I know. With my group I had to order the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale, label it and then take I photo. Next I had to use this to complete a writing frame. I thought it was interesting because it made me think really deeply about what makes a story interesting and how to hook a reader in. I liked the framework as it let me put my thoughts in a clear order and helped me know what to put into my narrative as a whole. I chose to share my learning by completing the logical order activity.  I thought it was easy after I read the information about the structure of a narrative. My next step is to use what I have learnt to write my own narrative.

Determining Credibility

 

    My Reflection:

I have been learning to do a task called Determining Credibility.  So what you have to do for this task is you have 2 pieces of writing and you have 2 different questions for each piece of writing and you can only answer by highlighting the wordsYES or NO.  I enjoyed doing this activity because I have never done this before. 

Term 4 Week 4

On Sunday morning I watched the rugby world cup finals game. It was  The All Blacks vs Australia   
and the All Blacks won the score was 34-17. It was a really tough game because Australia is a really hard team to beat but we beat the and it was a really good game.


First when I was at my friends house on Saturday night we set an alarm for 4.30 in the morning to 
get up and get ready so that we could go to my friends Nanna's house to watch the rugby. We can't watch the rugby on my friends tv because it doesn't work.  Then we got in the car with all of our blankets and pillows so that we wouldn't be cold while we watched the rugby game.


By the time we got there they all ready had done the haka and stuff and they had already started but we didn't miss much of the game. It started off good no tries had been scored but it was good. Then we got the ball passed the ball then passed it again then......... TRY!!!!!  We got our first try I was soo happy that we got a try. Then we got another try Dan Carter kicked over the post then everyone watched it as it went in between the two goal post then it was half time.  Then Australia kicked the ball Dan Carter caught it then he kicked it and it went in between the posts we was so surprised that he was yelling at the ball to go over the posts.  


Then it was Full time they did it the All blacks had won the rugby world cup 2015 this was their third time winning the rugby world cup I was soo happy when the won I think that they are the best team in the world!!!!!.

Character Description

Term 4 Week 3

On Friday I went to my friends house for a sleepover.  When I first got there we went to her house and we played on her trampoline we did backflips and other cool tricks. Then we went back inside and we watched some tv and watched youtube videos on her computer. 



After we went to the dairy and we bought a bag of lollies, a drink and we also got a packet of candy  floss.  We went back to her house to eat the lollies we didn't eat them all but we ate some of them. A couple minutes later we went to botany so that we could go to the candy shop to buy the Bean Boozled so the bean boozled are these jelly beans that could either be a yummy flavour or  disgusting flavour and the jelly beans come in pairs so they look exactly the same and you don't know what flavour it is by looking at it the only way you can tell it's which flavour is by eating it. 



A few days later it was time for me to go home my friends mum dropped me off at my house I had a lot of fun there and I never wanted to go home again!!!!

Term 4 Week 2

On the weekend I went to Lloyd Elsmore swimming pools. When I first got there I went straight into the pool because the water was warm and also because I was cold.  Then when I was in the pool I was
 warmer then I was before. After I started to play with my rugby ball that I brought and me and my friend were pacing the ball to each other trying to throw the ball over the other people that were in the pool.  Then the people that worked there were blowing up the slide so my friend asked her mum
if we could go on the slide and my friends mum said "yes you can" so we went to the counter by the  entrance so that we knew how much the slide cost and we had to pay $2 per person over 7 years old. 



Me and my friend were allowed to go on because I am 9 and my friend is 9 too! So when the slide was blown up fully it was time for us to go on and luckily me and my friend were the only people on  the slide so we got heaps and heaps of turns without having to wait for other people to finish on the slide.  After that me and my friend went to the deep and with our goggles so that we could see under water.  After about 3-4 hours later it was time for us to get out of the pool and go home I was really cold when I got out because the wind was cold and there was water in my ear and it was soo
ANNOYING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Term 3 Week 6

Last Wednesday morning 70 Japanese students came to visit Elm Park School.  They came to experience what a New Zealand school was like.  They only stayed until lunch time but we did some fun activities with them before they left.

When they first arrived we started with a big Powhiri in the auditorium.  For about 30 minutes we listened to them singing songs and saying stuff about how they are excited to learn more things about New Zealand. They were also excited about how they were going to come to visit our classes for the day.  We also listened to the Kapa Haka group perform.  I enjoyed watching Mrs Graham speaking Japanese.

Next we split up into groups and did some activities.  The activities that we did were Cards, Calligraphy, Origami and Kendama.  For the origami you could either do a Crane, Rabbit, Clover, Sailor, Yakkosan or a Balloon.  Calligraphy is a activity where you have to tell 1 Japanese student your name then they paint it in Japanese. There was about 4-5 Japanese Students painting peoples names in Japanese.

Then after all those activities we came back to class because it was morning tea time the Japanese students stayed in the auditorium with their buddies then they came back to our class with their morning tea we ate for 10-15 minutes then the bell went for us to go outside and play for half an hour.  Then it was time for us to come inside and we started to do some weaving. For weaving we had to get 10 strips of coloured paper of any colour.  Then you get a big black piece of paper with some holes big enough that you can fit the pieces of paper through them.

Finally it was lunch time but the Japanese students were leaving and when they were in the drive way by the office some boys and girls did the haka before they left.  I enjoyed doing the activities and lots of things. I hope they will come and visit us again soon and if they do I hope that they have more new activities for us to learn and do!! :)

Kensuke's Kingdom 2

                                                     My Reflection:
I have been learning to read a chapter of a book then going back and finding the answers for them. I found this activity a little bit harder than the last chapter because  you had to do more things at the end over the questions.  Next time I think I can focus and try to finish at a lesser amount of time.

Term 3 Week 3

Last week on Friday the whole school went to a Maori assembly because it was Maori Language Week.   

The first thing we did was the karakia then the national anthem. Then every syndicate sang a song and the year 5's did a play. Lastly we had a kapa haka performance. I thought that it was alright. 

After all that Mrs Melville handed out some prizes for the Maori language week I think that Maori language week was alright. My class got a prize and I went to go down and get in and in there was a table tennis set,a pack of cards and some stickers.

Finally we came back to class I was so happy that we won a prize because I really wanted to use the table tennis set. I felt really exhausted when it was almost home time.

Features of an Explanation

My Reflection:

I was learning about the features of an explanation. I learnt by reading information on a slideshow and then doing a quiz. I got 10 out of 10 right. I thought the quiz was easy because I didn't have to retry the questions. My next step is to use what iv'e learnt when I write explanations.

Kensuke's Kingdom - Chapter 1

My Reflection
I have been doing an activity for my learning called Kensuke's Kingdom.  I think that this is a good activity because you have to read a lot and go back and read to find the answers for the questions.  overall I thought that most people should give this activity a go because it helps you learn a lot.

Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers

What is an Improper Fraction?

 A number which the numerator is greater than the denominator.

What is a Mixed Fraction?
 A whole number and a fraction combined into one mixed number.

How do you change a Mixed Fractions to an Improper Fraction?
Multiply the whole number part by the fraction's denominator. Add that to the numerator. Then write the result on top of the denominator.

How do you change an Improper Fraction to a Mixed Fraction? 

Divid the numerator by the denominator.  Write down the whole number answer.  Then write down any remainders above the denominator.

My Reflection:
I have been learning to understand what an improper fraction and mixed numbers are.  So for this activity we had to screen record a factions-maths game that we were playing then answer some questions about improper factions and what they mean.  Overall I thought that this was a really fun and cool activity to do.  

Term 3 Week 2

On Saturday I helped my Mum buy tickets for when we go on a plane to Melbourne.  When we are in Melbourne the next day we arrive we are going to watch live WWE wrestling.


 So when we booked our tickets we had to go to my Mums work to print out the wrestling tickets.  We are only staying in Melbourne for 2 days and we are going in 2 weeks. My whole family is going to Melbourne but not my Dad because he is in Thailand then he went to England.  He is coming back at the end of this month because he went to go and visit his son.


I am really excited to go to Melbourne because I have never been there before and because I really want to watch wrestling.  I was asking and asking my Mum if we could stay there for more than 2 days but she kept saying  NO NO NO NO NO.

Kaitiaki Art

My Reflection:

In my classroom we have been doing Kaitiaki (Guardian) art.  It was easy to draw it and also colour it in because it was really easy.  Next time I think I could try to make it a little bit bigger because it was to small.

My Multiplication Follow Up

I was learning to do some multiplication problems then solving them and trying to find the answer by using some multiplication strategies.  Next time I think I can try to work on using some division to help me figure out the answers.

MY BRAIN WORK TERM 2 WEEK 9

My Reflection:

I have been doing some brain tasks in my class and this is one of them.  All we had to do is put the correct answers in the correct place then tack a screen shot.  I think that next time I can try harder to think hard about the answers instead of just guessing them. 

My Speech Brainstorm

                              MY REFLECTION:
I was learning to create a popplet and  do it about my speech. i did a thing called a popplet and it was based on my speech about sports.  I like doing popplets  Bbecause they are really fun and really easy to do.  I think that next time I could try to add in more facts about sports.

TERM 2 WEEK 9

ON MONDAY ME AND MY FRIEND DID A LITTLE BIT OF WORK ON A COUPLE OF BRAIN TASKS LIKE THERE IS AN A-Z CHALLENGE, 10 FACTS ABOUT THE BRAIN ACTIVITY AND LOTS MORE.  I THINK THAT THERE SHOULD BE A LITTLE BIT LESS OF THE TASKS FOR THE BRAIN BECAUSE SOME OF THEM MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT CHALLENGING FOR SOME  PEOPLE BUT NOT FOR ME.

NEXT TIME WHEN I DO ANOTHER BRAIN ACTIVITY I SHOULD TRY TO WORK REALLY HARD.   ME AND MY FRIEND HAD  A LOT OF THE TASKS COMPLETED BECAUSE SOME OF THEM WERE EASY AND SOME OF THEM WERE HARD BUT REALLY I DIDN'T THINK THAT ANY OF THEM WERE THAT HARD.  SO MY NEXT THIG THAT I NEED TO WORK ON IS TRYING TO GET MORE WORK DONE, FOCUSS ON MY WORK AND NOT GET DISTRACTED BY ANYTHING ELSE AROUND ME.

     My Reflection:
I was doing some tasks in my class and this is one of them.  So what we had to do is watch a little slide show and while you where watching it you had to find some answers like for example what does Taha Tinana mean in maori then you have to drag the answer in the correct place.

                     

Term 2 Week 7

                                            QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND
ON JUNE THE 1ST IT WAS THE QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY, SO WE HAD AN EXTRA DAY OFF SCHOOL SO IN MY LONG WEEKEND I HAD A SLEEPOVER AT MY FRIEND CHARLOTTE'S HOUSE, I WENT SWIMMING AT A INDOOR SWIMMING POOL, ATE SOME REALLY GROSS JELLY BEANS CALLED THE BEAN BOZLED JELLY BEANS AND LASTLY I STAYED THE NIGHT AT MY DAD'S HOUSE AND IT WAS LOTS OF FUN.


SO I KEEP WISHING THAT THERE COULD BE A EXTRA DAY OFF SCHOOL EVERY WEEK/WEEKEND BECAUSE I ENJOY NOT HAVING TO GO TO SCHOOL UNTIL THE NEXT DAY LIKE ON TUESDAY BECAUSE IF YOU HAVE AN EXTRA HOLIDAY ON MONDAY YOU HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL ON THE NEXT DAY.

Term 2 Week 6

This week my whole class started a program called our weekly tasks.  So basically what we have to do is we have to do these task for the whole week and try to finish them before the week after you start or if you can try to finish early.  My favourite task was the maths and doing the maths games because they were really fun and a little bit challenging for some people.  I think that other classes should try this activity because they might have not tried it before and might want to have a go as well as me and my class :):):):):):):):):):):):)

Term 1 Week 5

For the past week my class and my teachers have been starting a maths and a quiz  website called kahoot.  I like this website I like it because it has all kinds of questions like math,  all about the world,  flags,  the time and for the math one it has questions like times tables,  division,  addition subtraction etc.  

My Pepeha

This is my pepeha.  I have been learning to introduce myself in Māori using my Pepeha.  We also made art to display our pepeha.

Term 1 Week 8

This week some people in my class have been doing rippa rugby.  I have been doing rippa rugby to.  We also have a rippa rugby tournament I am going to the tournament because I know it is going to be awesome and it's going to be a lot of fun.

Term 1 Week 8 100 Word challenge

                                   
                                                         SUDDENLY I SAW.............

One hot afternoon I was about to take a big dive in a huge waterfall when  all of a sudden I saw the waterfall turned into a lava fall.  I was just standing at the edge of the cliff just waiting to see if the lava fall will turn back in a waterfall.  I felt the boiling hot steam coming from the lava fall on to my face.  Then it turned back into a waterfall.  Then I saw somebody thinking it was a great idea to throw rocks in the water, It turned back into a lava fall.  Then home time bye lava fall then.....

We have been learning to add detail to our writing by doing the 100 word challenge.  I enjoyed doing the 100 word challenge because it is really challenging. Next time I would try do a different story and try to get 100 words.

I have been learning to use a range of strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems.  I found this easy and fun because I know a lot of strategies.  My next step is to try even bigger numbers and start learning multiplication and division strategies.

Kiwi Kids News Activity - Summarising Information

My Reflection

I have been learning to summarise information.  I read an article from Kiwi Kids News about the rugby.  I think I could have done better at this activity by answering the questions in full.  My next step is to keep practising to summarise information.

Term 1 Week 6

Last week the whole class did some art, the art was called Pepeha art.  I enjoyed doing the Pepeha art because it was fun to do.  This is what we had to do, first we had to get a piece of paper with four large even triangles shapes,  the next thing we had to do is we had to draw four things like for example in the first shape I would draw my house then in the next one I would draw my awa- my river, then my mountain then in the last shape we got to draw anything we wanted to draw. I would like to  do this art every year!!!!!

Term 1 Week 5

The highlight of my week was doing foundation skills.  What we do for foundation skills is that we get to choose two activity's we want to do each day, then we go away and do our activity's independently.  I enjoy doing foundation skills.  I want to do it for the rest of the year because it is so much, I never want to stop doing foundation skills.

Term 1 Week 4

Last week week my whole class went to go and play a game with Youth Town.  The game we played was capture the flag. I was trying to go for the ball but when I went for the ball I got tagged, but on the last round I got the ball.  My team did not win but we can try again another time.  I enjoyed playing this game because it was a lot of fun!!!

My African Praise Poem

My Reflection 

I have been learning to write an African Praise poem.  I found this piece of work easy because it was easy to compare myself with an animal.  The best part of this is writing it because I haven't written one of these before.  My next step is to follow the steps correctly.
